Tunnel Book for film 'Shame' (dir. Steve McQueen, 2011). The piece is made up of sketches from a storyboard I made for the script on my own time. The tunnel box is made up of five layers, and the transparent background allows for light to shine through, adding mood to the scene. Lighting is an important in this piece; by adding light face-on gives focus to the characters Brandon and Sissy (brother and sister) , whereas backlighting the piece allows for the motif of the big city to obscure the characters' struggles, diminishing them.
Palette of purple, white, grey, and black give a cold tone to the scene. Drawings are photocopies, adding an element of digitisation to the work as both Brandon and Sissy are dependant on technology to feed their addictions. Text is taken from the film's original script. The scene is when Brandon, breaking away from watching pornography, overhears Sissy speaking and crying on the phone to her partner who wants to leave her.
